Recently our Year 9 History students have been researching inventions of the Industrial Revolution. The telegraph and Morse code was first used in 1844 and revolutionised long-distance communication by sending an electrical signal via wire laid between two stations. Here, Year 9 History student Heath Baldwin uses a telegraph handpiece to tap out his name in Morse code. This handpiece was used by Mr Coverdale’s grandfather, Russell King, who was the telegraphist at South Grafton Post Office during the 1950s and 1960s.
