Bill Turner Cup Round 2

On Thursday 22 April, the Under 15 Girls Soccer team travelled to Wollumbin High school for the second round of the Bill Turner Cup. Whilst this was the second round, it was the girls first game of the tournament due to a first round forfeit from the opposition.

The girls got off to a great start, Amelia Pirlo dodging and weaving around three players before slotting the ball in the bottom right corner of the net. The goals continued to flow for SJC, before the half-time break the girls bagged another three goals, making the score 4-0, with both Amelia and Katie McCracken scoring two goals each. The girls continued to attack in the second half, some swift through balls from the Diver sisters, Lois and Emily, along with Jaimee Canellis continued to put the Wollumbin defence under pressure. Some hard running by Eden Velegrinis and Adriana Rissman on the right and left wing also contributed to many scoring opportunities. Another four goals were scored in the second half; Amelia Pirlo ended up with three, Katie scored four and Emily Diver scored one, the final score being 8-0.

While our attack was brilliant, our defence was just as good. It was a tough day for the Wollumbin side, Amie Mellor was everywhere, shutting down every attacking opportunity. Alyssa Marshall, Alexis Jones, Mia Jeffrey, Zali Stringer and Summer Barton must all be commended for their contribution to the clean sheet as well, a massive effort!

It was a fantastic team effort, and the girls now progress to Round 3 of the Bill Turner Cup.
